The juice is not worth the squeeze
That is not an original quote or thought. I heard it while streaming live my daily go-to source of news and current affairs - C-SPAN.
For whatever reason the quote stuck in my sub-conscious and triggered a deep dive self-reflection mentally on the full meaning and import of the quote - "The Juice is not worth the squeeze - the end game is not commesurate with the load up front".
It then led me to ponder the real purpose of life? That is a million dollar question whose answer or response depends on the respondent.
Personally though, I think the purpose of life is a sum zero game in the sense that - if you look at it really critically, it is all for nothing - it is all vanity. I am not sure the Earth - nay the universe - is adversely affected one way or the other if we were alive or dead.
We are given birth to (or conceived in a petri dish and nutured to full term outside of the womb) , we strive to become somebody or something in life - we strive for success and if successful, we enjoy the spoils of our success. If not - we feel miserable and wish for death (??) - but lo and behold - all said and done, we all still end up dead - whether succesful or not - so - what exactly is the purpose of life?
If there is a purpuse for life - what exactly is it? If we were not given birth to - assuming the Earth was not inhabited by human beings - what would be the loss to Earth's existence or the habitat?
The real thing is - what exactly are we contributing to Earth - what would the Earth be missing if we were not around?
I think life's existence is all about vanity - it is over blown and probably not worth it - it is all about show-off - I am better off than you are mentality - more sucessful - bigger house, cars and all the other goodies of life. The Universe is infinite in terms of dimension and space, the Earth is just like a little dot of little or no signnificance in the scheme of things relative to the Universe.
So, my brethen - i put it to you - don't take life seriously - nobody ever gets out alive - sooner or later, we are going to die - it is just a matter of time - Q.E.D.
